Sound of Home, 2024
21 x 15, 26 Gelatin silver prints, toned with tea
A series of hand printed photographs about a memory of ‘going-home’.
In Japan, there are a number of songs talking about the feeling of ‘going-home’ and they actually play those songs specific to each region at 5 or 6 in the evening on a daily basis telling kids that it’s time to go home.
As well As this unique Japanese time signal culture, any other sound specific to a certain region can remind people of their home and become one of the ingredients in shaping the feeling of being at home.
To trigger the memory of ‘going-home in order to visually portray the sonic experience I intended to use the medium of photography in an almost frozen state and document myself singing the 'Yuuyake Koyake' song to prevent the feeling from vanishing all too quickly and hopefully giving a sort of awareness.
